It is usually linked to immunocompromised people. The infection is spread mainly through inhaling spores present in bird droppings or contaminated soil. WebSeven of the 36 patient presentations were definitive pulmonary cryptococcosis, 14 were presumptive disease, and 15 were colonization with C neoformans. There were 27 men (64.2%), 38 whites (90.5%), and the median age was 63 years (range, 22 to 82 years). Eighteen patients (42.9%) were immunocompetent, and the rest were immunosuppressed.
