Dry off the calipers with the isopropyl alcohol. With paint, the better you prep the surface, the better the paint will stick and stay. Be careful with the scouring pads.

Hammerite smooth has a temp rating of 90 degrees C so is not a high enough rating for the vents, plus it softens with application of brake cleaner. You didn't mention a brand of VHT paint, but things like Hammerite VHT aren't resistant to brake cleaner. Simoniz VHT (800 degrees) isn't resistant to brake cleaner.

WebJul 18, 2015 · I've done it both ways, taking the calliper off (leaving it attached) and painting in situ. Pro's can cons for both methods.
